Manual Service Disconnect

Our Excel|mate MSD series offers a solution for safely disconnecting the HV battery pack from the mains without tools and protecting it from short circuits using various fuses. This makes MSD connectors a safe solution for the maintenance of electric vehicles. We use a 2-stage shackle locking system that interrupts the HVIL circuit before the high-voltage contacts are disconnected. All high-voltage components of the system are safe to touch.

The MSD provides isolation for internal high-voltage battery packs without the need for special tools while protecting the battery from short circuits. With a high degree of ingress protection, this MSD provides a safe and reliable solution for PHEV maintenance.

Features and benefits:

  • Service life of over 50 mating cycles

  • Suitable for protection class IP67, IP6K9K

  • Operating temperature: -40 °C to 70 °C

  • Standards: USCAR-2. USCAER-37, LV-215

Frequently Asked Questions

HVIL, or High Voltage Interlock, is a safety feature of hybrid and all-electric vehicles that protects people during the assembly, repair, maintenance and use of a vehicle. The HVIL system is designed to protect anyone who may come into contact with high-voltage components throughout the lifecycle of an electric vehicle.

HVIL acts as a type of circuit breaker that sends a warning or error message to the driver if a high-voltage connection becomes loose, disconnected or damaged while the vehicle is in operation. HVIL also helps to protect the driver and occupants of a vehicle in the event of an accident. It is possible to order Amphenol Tuchel Industrial's EV connectors with or without HVIL.

Mechanical coding of connectors is a method of ensuring that connectors can only be connected to each other in a specific way. This is particularly important in applications where there are several connectors with different functions or connections in order to avoid mix-ups or incorrect connections.

The advantages of mechanical coding are manifold. It reduces the risk of misconnections, minimizes the likelihood of damage to equipment due to incorrect connections and improves overall system reliability. At Amphenol Tuchel Industrial, the EV connectors (except the MSD series) are mechanically keyed.
